Overview of A380-related projects at FRA
- Since august 2007: Three gate positions at Terminal 2 for the A380 (two positions are equipped with three passenger bridges).
- Beginning of 2008: Completion of 1st construction phase (A380 maintenance base).
- March 2008: With start of the summer timetable 2008 the newly designed C/D concourse, between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, commenced operation. Now passengers can access the new C/D concourse by way of a connecting corridor next to the expanded Hall C. In the new C/D concourse it is possible to board the Airbus A380 and other large aircraft using two boarding levels. By processing business and economy passengers on separat levels, it is possible to board them independently. This procedure is currently unique worldwide.
- By 2009: Up to three new docking positions will be modified at Pier B of Terminal 1 to accommodate the A380.
- Until 2012: A new concourse (A West) is being built by extending Terminal 1 to the west. It will be possible to handle up to seven long haul aircraft (up to four A380) or eleven short haul aircraft simultaneously.
- The planned new Terminal 3 will also feature positions for the A380.
