Pier A-Plus is designed with four levels that connect seamlessly to the corresponding levels of the existing Terminal 1 building.
Level 1 is primarily for apron and baggage functions. Level 2 is for Schengen traffic (both departures and arrivals), while levels 3 (departures) and 4 (arrivals) are for non-Schengen traffic. This arrangement ensures compliance with the European Union's stipulation that there must be no mixing of arriving and departing non-Schengen passengers.
Fast transfer to other areas is possible via the connecting structure between Pier A-Plus and the existing Pier A and a transfer node located approximately in the middle of Pier A-Plus. It will later be possible to add a Skyline station there.
Innovative retail and food & beverage concepts integrated in extensive marketplaces on the non-Schengen and Schengen levels, as well as spacious lounge areas for Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners, will make the new pier very attractive and ensure that the time spent there by passengers is of high quality.
In a forward-looking concept, the terminal functions are dimensioned to ensure a high degree of flexibility, spaciousness and excellent passenger orientation. If wished, it will be easy for airlines for provide tailored services for different customer groups.
