New Landing Runway

With the opening of the new north-west landing runway, the airport's declared hourly runway capacity is projected to rise gradually from 83 to 120 movements per hour (a 50-percent increase).

The goal of this capacity improvement is a noticeably increase in the number of available slots, especially during the busy peak periods. Peak-period slots at the Frankfurt air transportation hub are in great demand because they allow for fast connections.

The new north-west landing runway option offers the best cost-benefit ratio, both in terms of economics and the environment That is why we favored this option already during the mediation process.

We will do everything in our power to minimize the impact of this tremendous increase in traffic volume on people and the environment. For this purpose we have issued and by now largely implemented an expensive Ten-Point Action Program for noise protection (e.g., noise abatement program) and noise reduction (e.g., new charging system).
