Description of the second strategy pillar: Growth at Frankfurt

The second strategy pillar emphasizes that Frankfurt's position as an international aviation hub must be maintained and enhanced vis-à-vis its European competitors. Growth at Frankfurt encompasses:

  • increasing capacity of the existing runway system

     

    • transferring short-haul flights to the rail
      (see also "intermodality")
    • new air traffic control technologies
    • new taxiing guidance systems
    • capacity optimization via DMAN
      (Departure Management System)  
  • expanding  the runway system by building a new runway
  • accelerating real estate development/development of Frankfurt Airport City

     

    • making real estate the second core business pillar in addition to flight operations
    • developing FRA into an independent business location (Frankfurt Airport City)
    • major projects in the next few years will include:
      the Mönchhof site, Airrail Center, Gateway Gardens
  • expanding retail space
    • as part of the modification and expansion of T1
    • as part of the airport expansion further retail areas will be created in Terminal 3
  • intermodality
