Herbert Mai has been a member of the Executive Board of Fraport AG and Executive Director Labor Relations since April 2001.
He is responsible for the "Retail and Properties" strategic business unit, and the central units "Sustainability Management" and "Human Resources".
After his training in higher public administrative service in the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Mr. Mai served as administrative inspector for the president of the Düsseldorf administrative district. He left this position to work for ÖTV Hesse (public service and transport workers union), where his wide range of responsibilities included co-determination issues and political liaising. While pursuing his professional career Mr. Mai also attended the Higher Technical College for Social Service in Frankfurt am Main. In 1982 Mr. Mai became regional chairman of ÖTV Hesse and 1995 national chairman of the ÖTV union.
In 1996 Herbert Mai was elected president of the European Association of Public Service Unions and president of the European section within the International Public Service Organization.
Mr. Mai also is chairman of the Airport Committee of the German Federation of Regional Employers' Associations (VKA) and a member of the board of VKA. A member of the "Frankfurter Sportstiftung" foundation, he is particularly committed to supporting young athletes from the Frankfurt/Rhine Main region. Furthermore, Herbert Mai is active on the executive committee of "IB – Internationaler Bund für Sozialarbeit" and a member of the governing board of the "Fritz-Bauer-Stiftung" foundation.
