Fraport AG is a leading international Group in the airport business sector and operates Frankfurt Airport which is one of the major air traffic hubs in the world. In regard to the passenger count in 2009, Frankfurt Airport was ranked third in Europe behind London-Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle. In the freight sector Frankfurt Airport was ranked second in Europe. Frankfurt Airport serviced about 51 million passengers in 2009.
In the coming years Fraport will modernize and expand the infrastructure in the north area of the airport. The extensive capacity expansion program includes building a fourth runway for aircraft landings only and an additional Terminal 3 at the Frankfurt location. Consequently, Frankfurt Airport is not only a central traffic junction for aircraft, cars and trains but also an "Airport City" – a first class address for mobility, shopping, events and real estate. Fraport's portfolio of services includes more than all services connected to airport operations. Fraport is also a competent partner for airport retailing and real estate development. In 2009, the Fraport Group generated € 1,97 billion revenue and Group profits of € 157,3 million. Frankfurt Airport has become Germany's largest employment complex at a single location, with more than 500 companies and organizations providing jobs for 71,000 people. Fraport AG and its subsidiaries and affiliated companies alone employed nearly 18,500 people at FRA as of the end of 2009 (including apprentices and staff on leave).
