Functional but an architectural eye catcher
Hall C of Terminal 1 was expanded to increase capacity and passenger convenience at the north side of Frankfurt Airport. Featuring state-of-the-art facilities, the Hall C expansion offers additional capacity of 4 million passengers per year. Floor space was expanded by 25,000 square meters, including 900 square meters reserved for retailing.
The expanded hall not only offers a remarkable increase in capacity, but is also an eye catcher (architectural design: Christoph Mäckler of Frankfurt). The new atrium-type terminal area is suffused with natural light from expansive skylights of the extravagant shed-roof. The atrium perimeter is surrounded by 40 new check-in counters on two levels. The airline offices are located behind the check-in counters. Arriving and transferring passengers are guided to the new Hall C's modern baggage claim area which features the first 90-meter-long baggage carousels at Frankfurt Airport.
