N*ICE Aircraft Services & Support GmbH was established in July 1999 as a joint venture, with Fraport AG holding 52 percent and GlobeGround GmbH 48 percent. Each year, Frankfurt Airport publishes the "Frankfurt Aircraft De-icing Plan" in cooperation with the Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, N*ICE and the Airline Operators Committee. This plan regulates aircraft de-icing at FRA. By implementing innovative methods and continual improvements, in recent years it has been possible to improve aircraft de-icing at Frankfurt Airport to the point where it is no longer a critical factor in aircraft handling. The availability of this service has been significantly increased by standardizing the fleet of vehicles. A certain number of them can be used either for de-icing in the parking positions (at buildings or in the apron area) or for use on the "remote de-icing pads" near the takeoff runways. The rest are deployed for aircraft de-icing at the positions only. For training the de-icing teams, special attention is paid to ensuring that all involved staff are fully aware of the responsibilities their work entails. In addition to those employed at FRA, each year specially prepared trainers give employees of about 15 different airports worldwide instruction in aircraft de-icing. N*ICE Aircraft Services & Support GmbH has been certified together with Fraport as ISO9001:2000 compliant.
Fraport holds a 52-percent share in the company.
