Central handling and routing of international and national airmail
The Airmail Center Frankfurt (ACF) is a joint venture of Fraport AG, Lufthansa Cargo AG and Deutsche Post AG. The airport company and the airline each own 40 percent and Deutsche Post AG 20 percent of its equity capital.
Every day, the Airmail Center centrally handles over 400 metric tons of international airmail that arrives in Frankfurt on about 400 flights. It uses a high-performance sorting system to distribute letters, packages and parcels in containers and bags to some 300 destinations around the world.
Ideally situated at the airport between Terminals 1 and 2 in the immediate vicinity of the International Post Center of Deutsche Post AG, the Airmail Center handles all international and national airmail flown in and out of Frankfurt, as well as all military mail. Its central location permits fast and smooth transfers between Deutsche Post AG, Fraport AG and the international airlines. It also saves time by taking advantage of short, direct paths. No matter whether mail is transported by truck or plane, dispatch is speeded by direct access to motorways and the airport apron area. Process-optimized assignment of functions shortens the distances for distribution and logistics. The net effect is to process mail at the Frankfurt hub much more efficiently.
All airlines serving Frankfurt can take advantage of these services for all of the processes involved in moving international airmail to and from aircraft and the International Post Center, plus landside services. The ACF takes care of both physical handling and processing of associated documents. Another service of the ACF is sorting of all local domestic airmail (nighttime airmail).
Where quality management is concerned, in January 2001 the ACF was certified as complying with the DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 standard.
Fraport holds a 40-percent share in the company.
