FRA/rap> – In the reporting month of May 2007, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) registered 4,666,167 passengers and 169,789 metric tons of airfreight – two new monthly records at Germany's largest airport. Never before has the FRA international air transportation hub recorded such large passenger and cargo volumes in the month of May. The previous May passenger record, reached in 2006, was exceeded by 0.6 percent. On May 25 alone, FRA welcomed 176,689 travelers – achieving a new daily passenger peak day for the month of May and the busiest day of 2007 to date. The slight base-year effect caused by the World Cup 2006 slowed traffic growth for the first time compared to the previous year. On the other hand, the favorable occurrence of statutory holidays in May boosted tourist traffic – particularly to the classic vacation destinations in the Caribbean (up 7.6 percent), North Africa (up 4.5 percent), and Turkey (up 12.2 percent). Increasing by 3.2 percent, intercontinental traffic strongly benefited from this trend and noticeably exceeded the growth in European traffic. In particular, the major growth drivers were connections to the U.S.A., which jumped by 7.3 percent due to increased flight offerings. Airfreight throughput at FRA increased 0.3 percent compared to the previous May 2006 record month. Airmail declined by 1.7 percent to 7,493 metric tons in the reporting month. Aircraft movements also slipped in May 2007 by 1.1 percent to 42,787 takeoffs and landings. With 2,439,779 metric tons, cumulative maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) remained only slightly below the previous year's level (minus 0.3 percent). The Fraport Group's airports (shown as majority holdings) served a total of 6,360,104 passengers last month – 3.6 percent more than last year. Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN) Airport in Germany's Hunsrück region enjoyed a 10.3 percent gain in traffic to 358,632 passengers. With 603,706 travelers, Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru reported even stronger passenger growth of 29.7 percent. Antalya Airport (AYT) in Turkey continued to develop positively, with traffic increasing by 6.2 percent to 532,549 passengers (International Terminal One only). On the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, Bourgas Airport (BOJ) traffic rose by 1.5 percent to 101,510 passengers, while Varna Airport (VAR) experienced a 9.3 percent year-on-year dip in traffic to 98,089 passengers. Total cargo throughput (airfreight and airmail) for the six Fraport locations – Frankfurt, Frankfurt-Hahn, Antalya, Lima, Bourgas and Varna – increased by 2.1 percent to 197,865 metric tons. Aircraft movements for the Group climbed by 1.3 percent to 59,224 takeoffs and landings. – ENDS – Traffic Figures FRA
