FRA/th> Frankfurt Airport (FRA) again achieved new record figures in September 2006:   With 4,987,140 passengers using FRA – an increase of 0.6 percent on September 2005 – Germany's largest airport registered its busiest September ever.   Cargo throughput rose by 9.0 percent to 176,489 metric tons in the reporting month and airmail by 1 percent to 7,797 metric tons.

Despite the runway capacity bottlenecks seen for many years – particularly during daily peak hour periods – FRA thus achieved a further slight increase in traffic volume. The major growth factor was a rise in European traffic: In particular, routes to and from southern Europe increased by 4 percent.  In the intercontinental sector, the Far East provided special impetus for growth. The rise in FRA's airfreight tonnage was mainly due to an increase in trade with Asia – the boom in cargo tonnage seen since the spring of 2004 continues unabated. Aircraft movements at FRA dropped by 1.3 percent to 42,700 takeoffs and landings. Accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) fell 2.4 percent from the comparable month in 2005 to 2,436,903 metric tons. 

From January through September 2006, a total of 40,176,684 passengers used Frankfurt Airport, 1.0 percent more than in the comparable period 2005.   Airfreight tonnage rose by 10.6 percent to 1,511,670 metric tons in the first nine months of 2006, while airmail dropped by 2.7 percent over the same period, with 69,457 metric tons handled. The number of aircraft movements remained nearly unchanged at 368,752 takeoffs and landings (-0.3 percent).  Maximum takeoff weights dropped slightly by 0.9 percent to 21,054,359 metric tons from January to September 2006.

Together the airports of the Fraport Group served 56,270,855 passengers in the first nine months of this year, an increase of 1.5 percent.  Cargo traffic grew for all of the Group's airports, climbing by 11.0 percent to 1,901,349 during the same period.

Lima Airport (LIM), Peru, registered 511,925 passengers in September 2006, and increase of 7.1 percent. Antalya Airport's (AYT) Terminal 1 in Turkey, saw traffic jump by 52.1 percent to 775,989 passengers. Hanover Airport (HAJ) served 601,212 passenger (+ 0.6 percent) and Saarbrücken Airport (SCN) 52,934 passengers (-12.6 percent).   Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN) recorded 338,905 passengers in September 2006, an increase of 19.2 percent on September 2005.
