FRA/rap> Frankfurt Airport (FRA) achieved a new airfreight record in the reporting month, when more goods were handled than in any other month in the airport's history. With 187,307 metric tons, FRA registered a 7.8 percent jump in airfreight throughput for November 2006 and exceeded the previous peak figure of March 2006 by about 2,900 metric tons. November traffic records were also reported for passenger figures, aircraft movements and maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs). The FRA international air transportation hub served 4,003,702 passengers – an increase of 1.6 percent and the first November to surpass the four-million passenger level. Passenger growth was particularly evident in the Europe (up 2.8 percent) and intercontinental (up 2.1 percent) traffic categories. Domestic routes to Berlin, Hamburg and Munich also showed renewed growth. In November 2006, FRA's aircraft movements climbed by 0.3 percent to 39,853 takeoffs and landings, while MTOWs improved by 0.7 percent to 2,260,928 metric tons. Airmail slipped slightly by 0.1 percent to 8,755 metric tons. "FRA is booming like never before," said Fraport AG executive board chairman Dr. Wilhelm Bender. "Our airport is stretching at seams of its capacity limits. That's why we urgently need the planned new landing runway." The Fraport Group's six airports welcomed 5,421,235 passengers in the reporting month, up 5.5 percent. Cargo throughput (airfreight and airmail combined) jumped by 8.7 percent to 239,238 metric tons. Antalya Airport (AYT) in Turkey registered the greatest passenger surge, doubling to 235,643 passengers. Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN) served 276,219 passengers, up 20.2 percent traffic compared to November 2005. Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru enjoyed 14.1 percent growth to 514,553 passengers. With 371,400 passengers, Hanover Airport's (HAJ) traffic remained unchanged compared to November 2005. Saabrücken Airport (SCN) declined by 30.4 percent to 20,184 passengers. – ENDS –
