FRA/rap> Deutsche Bahn (DB) will be closing Frankfurt Airport's (FRA) Regional Train Station beneath Terminal 1 from July 9 to 30 for extensive track reconstruction work. Passengers traveling via S-Bahn commuter trains or other regional trains should alllow more time for getting to Frankfurt Airport. During these three summer weeks, DB will completely replace railway tracks, ties and the roadbed along the approximately 16-kilometers stretch between Kelsterbach and Frankfurt Stadion –the stations immediately west and east of FRA, respectively. The S8 and S9 lines (S-Bahn trains) as well as regional trains from Saarbrücken and Koblenz will be disrupted by the closure. However, the track renewal project will not affect Lufthansa's AIRail Service offered on ICE (InterCityExpress) trains operating between FRA's Long-distance Train Station and Cologne and Stuttgart. Despite the temporary closure of the Regional Train Station, FRA will continue to be linked to regional rail traffic via alternative replacement services. DB will be operating special S-Bahn "long" trains every 30 minutes between Rüsselsheim, the airport's Long-distance Train Station, and Frankfurt Central Station (Hauptbahnhof). These trains will operate from 4:00 in the morning until 1:30 at night. The replacement trains shuttling between Rüsselheim–FRA–Frankfurt Central Station will only make en route stops at Raunheim and Frankfurt-Niederrad stations. During the reconstruction work in July, regional trains from Saarbrücken and Koblenz will also stop at Raunheim station, where passengers can transfer to replacement shuttle trains going to FRA's Long-distance Train Station. The S8 and S9 trains departing from Raunheim (eastbound) will bypass their customary stops at Kelsterbach and FRA's underground Regional Train Station and continue onward to Frankfurt and Hanau. Rail passengers coming from the east to FRA will have to transfer at Frankfurt Central Station to special S-Bahn shuttle trains that travel to the airport's Long-distance Train Station. To avoid unnecessary stress, rail travelers should allow extra time for reaching Frankfurt Airport. Visit the Deutsche Bahn Web site for details of the special schedule: www.bahn.de |
