FRA/rap> Frankfurt Airport (FRA) welcomed 5,114,187 passengers during the vacation month of August 2007. This is only the second time that the airport recorded more than 5.1 million passengers in a single month. With 1.7 percent year-on-year growth, Fraport AG's home base achieved its busiest-ever August for passenger traffic. The previous best August result was in 2005, when 5,051,825 passengers used Frankfurt Airport. Up 2.8 percent compared to the same month last year, intercontinental traffic continued to drive FRA's passenger growth. In particular, the rising United Arab Emirates market continued to grow at a high level (up 11.5 percent). Demand for Caribbean destinations also accelerated by 5.6 percent. Within Europe, business travel-intensive routes to West European destinations developed dynamically, up 4.4 percent. Domestic traffic also climbed noticeably by 2.6 percent. FRA reached a new historic high for airfreight throughput in August 2007: 173,870 metric tons represented a jump of 4.6 percent. This topped the previous August record of 2006 by 7,567 metric tons. Airmail tonnage also increased by two percent to 7,618 metric tons. The number of aircraft movements at FRA rose by 0.7 percent to 43,096 takeoffs and landings. Accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) hit 2,489,969 metric tons, up 0.6 percent compared to the same period last year. Group-wide, passenger traffic in August 2007 again exceeded the eight million figure. Frankfurt (FRA), Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN), Antalya (AYT), Lima (LIM), Burgas (BOJ), and Varna (VAR) airports welcomed a total of 8,158,592 passengers – surging ahead by 4.3 percent compared to the previous year. The Group's Frankfurt-Hahn Airport topped its July 2007 passenger record again. Some 414,028 passengers in August 2007 represented year-on-year growth of 8.9 percent. Fraport's terminal in Antalya, Turkey, also registered a new historic high – with 999,786 passengers (up 5.2 percent) – and came just slightly short of hitting the one million mark. LIM served 728,694 passengers and recorded strong growth of 26.3 percent. In Bulgaria, BOJ received 539,148 passengers (up 5.1 percent), while VAR had 362,975 passengers (down 2 percent) in the same period.
