13.11.2007

47/2007

FRA/rap> Last month, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) registered new October records for passenger and airfreight traffic as well as aircraft movements.  FRA welcomed 4,959,206 passengers, a year-on-year increase of 3.2 percent.  Thus, the previous record of October 2005 was exceeded by approximately 125,000 passengers.  Reaching 184,136 metric tons, airfreight at Frankfurt rose by 2.2 percent compared to the same month last year.  The previous airfreight record of October 2005 was just under 181,000 metric tons.  With 8,296 metric tons in October 2007, airmail tonnage surpassed last year's level by 1.5 percent.

The number of aircraft movements in October climbed by 1.2 percent to 43,238 takeoffs and landings versus last year. This also topped the record month of October 2005, when 43,233 movements were handled  at FRA.  Accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) hit 2,467,100 metric tons – a one-percent gain versus  the corresponding period last year.

Up 4.7 percent, intercontinental traffic continued to drive FRA's growth in passenger business in October 2007.   In particular, connections to South America (up 10 percent) and to the U.S.A. (up 5.7 percent) enjoyed traffic growth in the reporting month.  Traffic demand to  tourist destinations also rose due to the autumn school vacations. Overseas markets influenced by this seasonal effect included the Dominican Republic (up 23.8 percent), Cuba (up 5.1 percent), and Sri Lanka (up 20.6 percent).   In the Mediterranean, demand for Egypt (up 17.5 percent) and Turkey (up 14.5 percent) was  particularly strong.

Fraport's airports (reported as majority holdings)  served a total of 6,872,787 passengers, an increase of 4.5 percent.

Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN) registered 372,705  passengers, or 7.3 percent growth in October 2007.     At Lima Airport (LIM) traffic jumped by 20.5 percent to  680,632 passengers. At Antalya Airport (AYT) in Turkey, 760,105 passengers used the Fraport-managed terminals  (up 2.9 percent).   Only Fraport's vacation airports in Bulgaria, Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR), registered a passenger loss in October 2007:  BOJ dropped 19.3 percent to 40,504 passengers, while VAR declined by 17.4 percent to 60,289.

Cargo throughput (airfreight plus airmail tonnage) at  Fraport's airports reported as majority holdings  increased by 3.6 percent to 226,608 metric tons.  The number of takeoffs and landings Group-wide rose by 2.9 percent to 61,911.
