Pier A-Plus

With the opening of the new Pier A-Plus in 2012 as a westward extension of Terminal 1, Fraport has taken yet another step toward securing the competitiveness and future viability of Frankfurt Airport. To ensure Frankfurt Airport's future as a successful major international hub, it is imperative for the airport to provide terminal positions for wide-body aircraft, and especially for the Airbus A380.

The new A-Plus terminal section constitutes, together with Piers C/D and B, the main focus of Lufthansa's A380 handling activities at Terminal 1.

After a small inauguration ceremony on October 2, the new Pier A-Plus became operational on October 10, 2012. A-Plus features state-of-the-art terminal facilities and a wide array of retail and food & beverage outlets for up to six million passengers a year.

Fraport contracted the Hamburg-based architectural firm gmp (Gerkan, Marg and Partners) as the general planner for this large-scale construction project.
