Fraport AG’s Corporate Safety & Security department is responsible for the safety and security of some 80,000 people employed at Frankfurt Airport, as well as its visitors and the around 60 million passengers who pass through Frankfurt Airport every year. National laws, European regulations and international agreements are the basis for the civil aviation safety – both as regards safety of operation and the defense against external threats to air travel, defined as security.

In view of ensuring these safety and security standards, Fraport AG maintains a comprehensive system of procedures and measures to avert and prevent dangers and to guarantee a rapid recovery of the operations after an incident.

Safety and Security Control Center

The Safety and Security Control Center (SLS) is the central alert and alarm point for all security matters.

In case of emergency, it coordinates the current events and documents the operational actions of the airport fire services, the rescue service, the airport security and the emergency and crisis management. The SLS informs all internal departments involved and the management. It is responsible for the classification of the emergency event pursuant to Fraport’s emergency plan. It also alerts the emergency management, the operational units, handles their rapprochement to the site of emergency and supports all operational tasks during the entire intervention.

Emergency and Crisis Management

The Emergency and Crisis Management is aligned to the requirements of a modern company acting within an intermodal and complex transport system. This includes emergencies and serious interruptions of operations as well as external demands. Its main task is the preventive protection of operations, property and people. This is achieved by active strategies to minimize and avert hazards. Furthermore, all areas of the airport are supported in case of interruptions or damages. Emergency and Crisis Management aims at reducing the effects on the airport transport system to a minimum and to restore an orderly operation as soon as possible.

Frankfurt Airport has an efficient contingency plan laid down in an Emergency Instructions Manual. As a precaution in the event of a crisis, Fraport AG provides an Emergency Response and Information Center, including the necessary procedures and the corresponding crisis unit organization. To foster readiness for emergencies, various emergency exercises are regularly held in accordance with the legal provisions and international regulations.

Services:

  • Expert advice to help air carriers in preparing their own emergency plans
  • Information events and instructions for governmental authorities as regards the emergency facilities at Frankfurt Airport.
