Focusing on a sustainable future

For us, acting sustainably means shaping the future in a responsible way. We understand sustainable development as a continuous process. We are convinced that entrepreneurial flexibility can only be achieved by consistent inclusion of non-business aspects in management processes.

Organizational anchoring

Sustainability or responsibility issues are handled by Fraport AG’s “Corporate Development, Environment & Sustainability” Central Unit under the direct authority of the Executive Board Chairman. This Unit embodies all strategically relevant subjects dealing with a responsible corporate governance and initiates their continued development. In addition, this Unit is responsible for preparing the materiality matrix and the program. Responsibility for reporting as well as rankings as assessments falls within the competence of the Unit “Finance & Investor Relations”.

Materiality Matrix

The Group’s materiality matrix reflects Fraport’s broad understanding of a responsible corporate governance that not only covers ecological, but also corporate and social aspects. Its contents and their prioritization were yielded from a survey among Fraport stakeholders.


Our program addressing the strategically relevant issues for a responsible corporate governance is synchronized analogically with the fields of action indicated in the materiality matrix (please see “2015 Compact – Gute Reise! We make it happen”, page 28 et seq.).


Materiality Matrix & Program - History and milestones

2010 First development based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines and in dialog with the Company’s most significant stakeholder groups. Definition of targets and measures for the six top-priority areas of activity.
2011 Definition of targets and measures for the additional eleven areas of activity of the materiality matrix.
2012 Update following an internal evaluation process.
2013 Update following consultation with the Executive Board, the heads of the Company’s business, service and central units as well as representatives of important stakeholders. Verification of current relevance and confirmation of applicability.
2014 Verification of current relevance and confirmation of applicability.
