Fraport strives to be sensitive to the needs of the local communities. Fraport selects, develops and implements ongoing community support programs designed to optimize effective two-way communications with its neighbors. Fraport sponsored more than 481 social projects in neighboring communities. For example, donations benefited facilities for the handicapped, children affected by cancer, the German bone marrow donation registry, the German Red Cross, the Malteser assistance program, and the local AIDS assistance and information program.
In the so-called "neighborhood area" - a defined area covering a radius of about 35 kilometers surrounding the airport - Fraport supports schools, pre-schools, sports teams, cultural initiatives, and other projects. Applicants must submit a written application along with project description. The support provided can be either financial or in form of complete sporting team outfits.
