Aviation security training

Interactive security training - IST

In the European Union, airport operators may grant unescorted access to the security-restricted areas of an airport only to those persons who have completed a valid aviation security training.

Computer-assisted interactive security training (IST) is available to all airport employees who need access to the security-restricted areas and have had no other aviation security training. The training content is aligned with legally prescribed provisions of point 11.2.6.2 of Chapter 11 of the Annex to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/1998 as well as the time frames and content-related requirements of the modular system of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior.

The training takes three hours. A test is taken at the end of the training. Training must be undertaken again after no more than five years.

You will find further information on interactive security training (IST) in the FAQs. For other queries regarding aviation security training and IST, please see the Contact section.

Pursuant to point 11.2.6.2 of the Annex to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/1998, the training features a set of content that is prescribed for “persons other than passengers requiring unescorted access to security-restricted areas” of an airport. This content is coordinated with the Hessian Ministry of Transport as the supervisory authority, and complies with the time frames and national regulations of the German federal government. The interactive security training (IST) has been authorized under license number HE-HMWEVL-WBT-1126-001.

Successful completion of the training by way of the test is recorded, and the date is transmitted to the Airport ID Card management system automatically. A training certificate is mailed to the employee after approx. one week.

If another aviation security training course has been completed, the corresponding certificate can be examined and recognized if applicable. To this end, the training certificate, bearing the respective name, must be sent in clearly legible form as a pdf file via e-mail to Flughafenausweise@Fraport.de. If the previous training is recognized and has been documented by the Airport ID Card Service Center, it is no longer necessary to complete the interactive security training (IST).

Frequently asked questions on aviation security training

You can access the training via any computer with an Internet connection. The appropriate Internet address will be sent to you in a personal letter. As soon as you receive personal access details, you can log in, read the content and take the test at the end.

No. Access authorization for sensitive areas at airports is regulated by law. Proof that the training has been completed on time is mandatory, and blocking of the Airport ID Card in the event of non-participation is compulsory.

Your individual window for completing the training starts on the date stated on the front of the letter sent to you, containing the training access details. The ID Card is blocked eight weeks after the respective date, if the training is not completed (example: letter dated July 1 > block August 25). The individual access authorization code for IST remains in the system for a further 28 calendar days and then expires.

If your Airport ID Card is blocked, you can complete the training using your old account within these 28 calendar days. If you no longer have your user details, you can request them again from the Airport ID Card Service Center. Your Airport ID Card remains blocked until you have passed the test at the end of the interactive security training (IST).

If the letter containing your training access details dates from more than 12 calendar weeks ago, please contact the Airport ID Card Service Center for the next steps. Usually, a new IST letter with a new, individual access code is issued there. In this case too, your Airport ID Card remains blocked until you have passed the test at the end of the interactive security training (IST).

Once the training is completed, the Airport ID Card is unblocked by no later than the next day.

If you completed another aviation security training course as per Annex 11 of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/1998 no more than 5 years ago, you do not need to complete the IST training. Instead, submit the corresponding
training certificate to the Airport ID Card Service Center.

Please contact the Airport ID Card Service Center. You will receive a new letter, but this will not extend the deadline for completing the training.

The individual letters containing the training access details are addressed personally. The home address is in the address field. If the address is incorrect, please contact your employer or responsible HR manager.

If the cover of the individual access details is missing, please contact the Airport ID Card Service Center. You will receive new access details.

If your letter is damaged and your user number is therefore illegible, we will send you a new letter. In this case, please contact the Airport ID Card Service Center. You will receive
a new letter.

There is no other way than by mail of passing your details on to you, as your access details cannot be stored under your name for data protection reasons.

If your letter is damaged and your password is therefore illegible, please contact the IT (IUK) Service Desk at +49 69 960 79000.

The deadline for completing the training is not extended in any of the above-mentioned cases.

No. Please contact the Airport ID Card Service Center.

The letters asking employees to undertake the online training are sent automatically. The date on which each Airport ID Card holder receives a letter depends on the individual date of their last training course.

The application is loaded but doesn't start up, and the subsequent link doesn't work, even after several attempts.

The application starts up, but the user interface is incomplete. Some content is not displayed.

This is most probably because your Flash Player is incompatible. The minimum requirement is Flash Player 7. If the problem occurs, although you are using Flash Player 7 or a higher Flash Player version, please contact the IT (IUK) Service Desk at +49 69 690 79000.

All users receive individual user details, comprising a user account and password, in a personal letter. User accounts always have eight digits and only consist of the numbers 0–9. The numerical sequence must be entered in full, including the leading zeros. Passwords consist solely of lower-case letters (no use of c, g, i, l , o, p, q, rr [double r] or v) and the numbers 1–9.

I have received my user details, but can't log in.

If the system displays an error message, please follow the instructions.

I have changed my password and forgotten it.

You must reset to your initial password in this case. Please contact the Airport ID Card Service Center.

The training takes approx. three hours and ends with a test.

You have ten attempts to pass the test.
