What kind of ID Card do I need?

There are different types of ID Cards at the airport. The area validity of an ID card is shown by its color. This applies to Airport ID Cards, Vehicle ID Cards and Short-Term ID Cards alike. Technically readable codes of the ID cards are associated with their color.

You find an overview of the area distributions at the airport in our plan.

  • “Green” ID Card color: The "green" ID card gives access to the operation areas.
  • “Blue” ID Card color: The "blue" ID Card gives access to the airside area of the Terminal. It includes the authorizations of the "green" ID Card. Prior to the issue of the ID Card, a reliability check and an aviation security training are required.
  • “Red” ID Card color: The "red" ID Card gives access to the airport apron. The apron is one of the critical parts. It includes the authorizations of the "green" ID Card. Prior to the issue of the ID Card, a reliability check and an aviation security training are required.
  • “Yellow” ID Card color: The "yellow" ID Card includes the authorizations of the "green", the "blue" and "red" ID Cards. For the approval of these areas evidence of a permanent activity in all areas needs to be presented. Prior to the issue of this ID Card, a reliability check and an aviation security training are necessary.

Depending on where you are operating at the airport, a corresponding ID Card will be issued. You can find details regarding other types of ID Cards and additional authorization in the Identification Regulations.

In the course of these checks, various governmental agencies are contacted for the purpose of verification of the applicant's personal data. In order to be able to carry out these checks, the places of residence as well as periods of (non-)employment over the last five years must be provided. Applicants that have been living and/or working abroad during the last five years will be required to provide an Impunity Certificate to the Frankfurt Police Headquarters.
