6.1 million travelers flew via Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in July. This equates to an increase of 1.6 percent. European leisure destinations in Greece, Italy, and Spain were in particular demand last month. On intercontinental routes, destinations in Thailand and East Africa benefited from a significant boost in demand. Cargo volumes increased by 3.7 percent in July, to 179,055 metric tons. There were 42,657 takeoffs and landings. This equates to growth of 5.3 percent. The total maximum takeoff weights were around 2.6 million metric tons. This represented an increase of 2.3 percent compared with the same month in 2024.
Most international group airports recorded higher passenger numbers. At Slovenia’s Ljubljana Airport (LJU), traffic rose by 12.2 percent to 181,599 passengers. Due to an extraordinary effect, Fraport’s two Brazilian airports, Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA) recorded an increase of 96.9 percent to 1.3 million passengers. In July 2024, massive floods around Porto Alegre negatively impacted on traffic and led to the closure of the airport for several months. Peru’s Lima Airport (LIM) experienced growth of 5.4 percent last month, to around 2.3 million passengers. Fraport’s 14 Greek airports were used by a total of 6.6 million passengers. This equates to an increase of 2.4 percent. In Bulgaria, the two coastal airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) welcomed 828,538 passengers – a 4.0 percent increase. Traffic at Antalya Airport on the Turkish Riviera largely remained stable at the previous year’s level, with around 5.6 million passengers (-0.4 percent).
The total number of passengers at all airports actively managed by Fraport increased by 4.6 percent year-on-year to around 22.9 million in July 2025.
