The new Sky Line people mover, which recently began connecting Terminals 1, 2, and 3 at Frankfurt Airport, is expected to remain out of service for the next couple of weeks. The temporary suspension is necessary to carry out technical adjustments and optimizations identified during the first weeks of high-volume operations, which saw up to 25,000 passengers per day. The current focus is on inspecting and adjusting the various systems and vehicles. Siemens Mobility technicians, who are responsible for operating the people mover, are working closely with Fraport AG’s specialists.

“Reliable and stable operation of the system is our highest priority. We take the current challenges very seriously and are working closely with our partner Siemens to resolve the causes of the disruptions,” explains Alexander Heinrich, Operations Manager for the Sky Line people mover at Fraport AG. “Our goal is to provide all users with a reliable, comfortable, and safe means of transportation.”

While the train is out of service, a frequent shuttle bus service with up to 20 buses will run between the terminals every two to three minutes. During the night, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., the shuttle bus service will be operating every 10 minutes. Buses will pick up and drop off passengers in front of the respective terminal buildings at the arrivals level. Service staff will be available on site to assist travelers. Passengers are advised to allow extra time when planning their arrival and departure from the airport. Transfer passengers can use an airside shuttle service with up to five buses between the terminals.

The new Sky Line people mover connects the airport’s terminals along a route of approximately 5.6 kilometers. In regular operation, the fully automated, driverless system can transport up to 4,000 people per hour in each direction.

The existing Sky Line people mover between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 remains fully operational.
