Fraport Brasil S.A. Aeroporto de Fortaleza, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fraport AG and operator of Fortaleza Airport (FOR), has officially assumed operations of Jericoacoara Airport (JJD) in northeastern Brazil. With the addition of JJD, Fraport AG now operates three airports in Brazil.

The airport concession was awarded under the Brazilian government’s AmpliAR program, which allows for regional airports to be integrated into existing concessions. Jericoacoara Airport is now part of the existing concession for Fortaleza Airport (FOR), with the concession period running until 2047. The concession includes the operation of the passenger terminal, as well as additional landside and airside infrastructure such as retail and parking facilities. Fraport Brasil S.A. Aeroporto de Fortaleza has committed to investing in the modernization of the airport over the next three years.

Jericoacoara serves as a gateway to a major tourism region

The area around Jericoacoara is part of one of Brazil’s most visited national parks. It is known for its expansive beaches, breathtaking sand dune landscapes, and spectacular lagoons. Due to regular trade winds, the region is also a popular destination for kite- and windsurfers. Jericoacoara is often referred to simply as “Jeri”.

In 2025, JJD welcomed approximately 260,000 passengers, equivalent to a 23 percent year-on-year increase. The airport features a single runway (2,200 x 45 m) and is served by Brazil’s three major airlines: LATAM, GOL, and Azul.

Fraport AG has been active in Brazil since 2017, operating the airports in Fortaleza and Porto Alegre under separate concessions. During this time, Fraport has successfully modernized and further developed these gateways.
