Fraport Traffic Figures – September 2026: Frankfurt Airport Reports Growth in Passenger Traffic and Cargo Volumesat

FRA serves 6.1 million passengers in September – Total Group passenger numbers increase by 2.7 percent

Frankfurt Airport (FRA) welcomed some 6.1 million passengers in September 2026, representing an increase of 1.6 percent year-on-year. With the summer school vacations still ongoing in the neighboring German states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg during September, demand for traditional leisure destinations remained strong throughout the month.

In the January-to-September period of 2026, passenger numbers in Frankfurt declined slightly by 0.2 percent year-on-year to approximately 47.5 million. Traffic was negatively impacted by a number of adverse factors, including geopolitical tensions and, in particular, strikes at Lufthansa, which affected almost 700,000 passengers in Frankfurt during the first nine months. Excluding the impact of these strikes, FRA’s nine-month passenger numbers would have grown by about 1.3 percent.

Cargo throughput (comprising airfreight and airmail) in September rose by 2.5 percent year-on-year to 174,773 metric tons. In contrast, aircraft movements decreased by 3.5 percent to 40,539 takeoffs and landings. This decline was largely attributable to a 25.2 percent reduction in flights to and from destinations within Germany, reflecting in particular the suspension of services to Bremen and Stuttgart. Meanwhile, accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) contracted by 1.2 percent year-on-year to about 2.5 million metric tons in the month under review.

Across the Group, most of the airports in Fraport’s international portfolio reported growth during September. Traffic at Slovenia’s Ljubljana Airport (LJU) surged by 16.6 percent year-on-year to 205,495 passengers. In South America, Fraport’s Brazilian airports recorded a total of 1.2 million passengers. This figure includes for the first time Jericoacoara Airport (JJD) in northeastern Brazil, following the recent addition of this regional airport to Fraport’s global network. JJD served 27,272 travelers in September. Fraport’s existing Brazilian airports, Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA), achieved a combined growth rate of 2.1 percent year-on-year in the reporting month. Traffic at Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru rose by a robust 10.5 percent year-on-year to around 2.3 million travelers. In Europe, Fraport’s 14 Greek airports were used by 5.7 million passengers in total, up 4.2 percent year-on-year. The Bulgarian coastal airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) together welcomed 554,292 passengers, representing an increase of 8.6 percent. On the Turkish Riviera, traffic at Antalya Airport (AYT) dipped by 1.7 percent year-on-year to 5.1 million passengers.

The total number of passengers at all airports actively managed by Fraport increased by 2.7 percent year-on-year to around 21.1 million in September 2026.
