5.7 million travelers flew via Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in May. Supported by the timing of holidays and school vacation periods, the figures represented year-on-year passenger growth of 2.7 percent. In Europe traffic, destinations in Southern Europe saw particular increases. Meanwhile, destinations in the Far East, Africa, and Latin America were beneficiaries of long-haul growth.
Cargo volumes fell by 1.3 percent in the reporting month, to 176,725 metric tons. The number of aircraft movements reduced by 2.1 percent, with 41,377 takeoffs and landings. Total maximum takeoff weights were around 2.5 million metric tons. This represented a year-on-year decrease of 1.9 percent compared to the same month in 2025.
Outside Germany, most Fraport airports posted increases. At Slovenia’s Ljubljana Airport (LJU), traffic increased strongly, by 11.2 percent. 168,820 passengers used the Slovenian capital’s airport in May 2026. Fraport’s two Brazilian airports, Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA), recorded an increase of 5.7 percent to 1.2 million passengers. Peru’s Lima Airport (LIM) saw growth of 1.3 percent last month, to around 2.2 million passengers. Fraport’s 14 Greek airports were used by a total of 4.0 million passengers. This represented a significant increase of 6.0 percent. In Bulgaria, the two coastal airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) welcomed 252,375 passengers (up 13.3 percent). Meanwhile, traffic at Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera fell by 5.0 percent to 3.7 million passengers.
The total number of passengers at all airports actively managed by Fraport increased by 1.9 percent year-on-year to around 17.1 million in May 2026.
