New destinations in Norway and Türkiye / More flights to North America / Intercontinental flights nearly at pre-crisis levels

– Frankfurt Airport’s new summer schedule will come into force on March 31, in tandem with the changeover to daylight saving time in Germany. The coming summer season will see a total of 83 airlines flying to 283 destinations in 90 countries around the world. This means Frankfurt Airport (FRA) will remain Germany’s most important international aviation hub with the largest number of intercontinental destinations. The summer schedule will apply until October 27.

The new timetable includes additional European destinations. In Norway, Harstad/Narvik Airport (EVE), serving the Lofoten archipelago, will enjoy non-stop flights from Frankfurt for the first time in summer 2024: passengers can fly twice a week to this destination on Discover Airlines (4Y) from May 16. SunExpress (XQ) will also be expanding its existing service with a weekly flight to Malatya (MLX) in Eastern Anatolia from June  2.  Meanwhile, Greece’s Sky Express (GQ) continues services to Athens (ATH) over summer after the airline launched flights from FRA to the Greek capital over the winter.

FRA’s summer schedule will also see enhanced connections to North America. From June 4, Lufthansa (LH) will operate five flights weekly to Minneapolis (MSP), complementing an existing service offered by leisure carrier Condor (DE). Lufthansa will also offer a new route to Raleigh-Durham (RDU): the city in North Carolina will receive five flights weekly from Frankfurt, starting on June 6. Condor is expanding its North America offering and will add three weekly flights to San Antonio (SAT) in Texas from May 17. Frankfurt will be the only airport in Europe to offer a non-stop service to SAT. The popular destination of Miami (MIA) in South Florida will be another addition to Condor’s timetable. The airline offers three flights a week to MIA from March 23, complementing existing services offered by Lufthansa.

In Asia, Condor will offer new flights to Bangkok (BKK) and Phuket (HKT), boosting flights to Thailand from FRA. For its part, Lufthansa will continue to fly to Hyderabad (HYD) in India, continuing a service that it began in winter.  

FRA’s 2024 summer schedule will see a six percent increase in the number of flights compared to last year (as of March 19) ¹. With an average of 4,380 passenger flights each week, the number of services from Frankfurt still remains 13 percent lower than the pre-crisis level from summer 2019. A total of 3,285 weekly flights will take passengers to 160 European destinations, while 1,106 services each week operate to 122 destinations on other continents. The figures show that the number of intercontinental flights have now roughly reached the levels of 2019. Meanwhile, the outbound seat capacity from Frankfurt now averages around 807,000 seats per week, a five percent increase on a year earlier. For flights within Europe, seat numbers are increasing by three percent. All changes listed are based on comparisons with the 2019 and 2023 summer schedules.

Starting April 10, check-in operations for Discover Airlines will be relocated from Concourse A to Concourse B in Terminal 1.
