Summer Events at Frankfurt Airport

Visitors’ Terrace to host a number of special attractions – New Premium Tour to offer customized behind-the-scene peeks of the airport

Summer vacation is around the corner: time for family fun, leisure activities, day trips, and outdoor entertainment. Frankfurt Airport (FRA) offers a little bit of everything. Young and old alike especially love the  Visitors' Terrace  at Terminal 2. The terrace is the perfect vantage point for watching the hustle and bustle at Germany’s largest international air traffic hub. Pair it with an  airport tour  to make sure you don’t miss anything!

Some are drawn to the international flair: the special buzz at airports that is a combination of wanderlust, the meeting of cultures, and lingering excitement about the trip ahead. Others focus more on the technology: a fascination with aviation, different aircraft types, and the busy activity on the apron.

Summer Family Fun at FRA

Every Sunday during summer break in Hesse, families can look forward to special vacation attractions on the Visitors’ Terrace – featuring live narration of the airfield activity, face-painting for kids, and delicious food and drink. Our mascot Fluggi will also be there, bearing little treats for guests.

High Times after Work

It wouldn’t be summer without outdoorafter-work parties. Enjoy the evening sun, small snacks, and refreshing drinks with like-minded people—all of that set against the spectacular backdrop of Frankfurt Airport. Since last year, party-goers have regularly been invited during the summer to come out after work and unwind on the Visitors’ Terrace. The dates for 2018 are July 19, August 16, September 20, starting at 6 p.m. Tickets cost €5. Please be sure to book tickets in advance. Booking opens four weeks before each event.

Brand-New Attraction: Premium Tours for Individualists

We now offer a  premium tour  for everyone looking for unique airport insights. Along with a tour guide, small groups of up to five people can explore the apron in a minibus. The tour route is tailored to the participants’ interests. It doesn’t get more exclusive than that! The basic package covers a 60-minute tour and costs €199 for the entire group. Guests can add on various modules for a custom tour. You could visit the airport’s fire department or Deutsche Post AG’s international sorting center. Or take a small detour to the Airlift Memorial and explore the historical Douglas DC-3 airplane while you’re there. How about a ride in the flight simulator or a follow-me vehicle?

The Best Way to Get to the Airport: Public Transport

Frankfurt Airport will be welcoming about 240,000 passengers every day from June to October. Things won’t just get busy at the terminals—parking spots can also get scarce. Visitors are best advised to make their way to the airport on public transport. Buses and trains regularly leave for the airport from Frankfurt’s city center and surrounding areas. Excellent public-transport connections extend far beyond the immediate region.

Or Hop on Your Bike

Make the trip part of the fun! The airport is tied into regional cycling routes. For more information on  biking to the airport, refer to our  Bicycle Map  (in German) and   the online version of the  Hesse Cycling Route Planner. Lookout points along the runways provide a stunning view of apron and runway activity.

Passengers and visitors can find more information  about the airport as a tourist destination and the many services available at Frankfurt Airport on our  airport website, at ourService Shop,  and via Frankfurt Airport’s social media channels on  Twitter,  Facebook,  Instagram,  andYouTube.
