The company Fraport Brasil S.A. Aeroporto de Fortaleza, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fraport AG, was founded in 2017 for the operation of Fortaleza Airport. Fraport was awarded the concession on March 16, 2017, during an auction in São Paulo. The 30-year concession period began in August 2017. Operational management by Fraport Brasil commenced on January 2, 2018. In addition to operating the airport, the operating company is responsible, according to the concession contract, for expanding the entire infrastructure as well as increasing the quality standards of the airport. Fortaleza is the capital of the Brazilian state of Ceará in the north of Brazil.

In November 2025, the company Fraport Brasil S.A. Aeroporto de Fortaleza participated in a tender process for the integration of Brazilian regional airports into existing concession contracts. On November 27, 2025, it was awarded the contract for the operation of Jericoacoara Airport. The takeover of operations took place on September 1, 2026. The concession period for Jericoacoara Airport ends at the same time as the existing concession for Fortaleza Airport.
