Fraport Traffic Figures – September 2025: Most Group Airports Report Ongoing Passenger Growth

Around 6.0 million passengers flew via Frankfurt in September – Increase of 2.2 percent year-on-year – Passenger numbers across the Group rose by 5.3 percent to a total of 20.5 million

Frankfurt Airport (FRA) welcomed approximately 6.0 million passengers in September 2025 – a 2.2 percent increase compared to the same month in 2024. With summer school vacations ongoing until mid-September in the neighboring German states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, traditional leisure destinations continued to see high demand. As Germany’s gateway to the world, FRA exceeded the 200,000-passenger mark on 16 days in September. During the first nine months of the year, Frankfurt recorded a cumulative total figure of around 47.6 million passengers, up 1.8 percent on the equivalent period in 2024.

Cargo throughput in Frankfurt, comprising airfreight and airmail, edged up by 0.6 percent year-on-year to 170,505 metric tons in September 2025. Aircraft movements climbed by 5.5 percent to 41,997 takeoffs and landings. Accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) were around 2.5 million metric tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 2.9 percent.

The majority of Fraport’s Group airports worldwide also registered passenger growth in September 2025. At Slovenia’s Ljubljana Airport (LJU), traffic surged by 13.1 percent year-on-year to 176,246 passengers. Fraport’s two Brazilian Group airports at Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA), combined, served 1.2 million passengers – a 97.8 percent increase year-on-year. This significant rise reflects a one-off effect, as POA was closed for several months last year following severe floods in the region. Elsewhere in South America, traffic at Peru’s Lima Airport (LIM) slipped by 2.8 percent to roughly 2.0 million passengers. The 14 Greek regional airports welcomed a total of 5.5 million passengers, a 2.8 percent year-on-year rise. In Bulgaria, combined traffic at the two coastal airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) jumped by 8.4 percent to 510,181 travelers. Meanwhile, passenger numbers at Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera grew by 3.4 percent to around 5.1 million.

The total number of passengers across all airports actively managed by Fraport rose to around 20.5 million in September 2025, up 5.3 percent compared to the same month last year.
