Passive Noise Abatement

The aim of passive noise abatement is to reduce the noise level inside buildings by way of suitable structural improvements.

Overview

To date, Fraport has conducted three passive noise abatement programs for the region. The most recent program is based on the planning approval notice on the expansion of Frankfurt Airport issued by the responsible Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport and Housing (HMWEVW) on December 18, 2007. Under the Regulation on Noise Protection Areas, which came into force on October 13, 2011, qualifying residents had until October 12, 2021, to apply to the Regional Government of Darmstadt for structural noise abatement measures and financial compensation for the reduced use of their outdoor areas due to aircraft noise. It was also possible to submit applications for funding for structural noise protection measures to the Regional Fund up until December 31, 2021. These application deadlines have now passed. Further information, especially on the extension of the implementation deadline for qualifying applicants due to the pandemic, can be found on the website of the Regional Government of Darmstadt. Expenditure for the most recent passive noise abatement program amounted to 60 million euros. This was supplemented by additional funding from the Regional Fund.
