If you have already completed your vocational training, the APVO training course could be an option for you.

The 18-month course teaches you firefighting and paramedic skills and knowledge.

This includes familiarizing you with the relevant vehicles and training as a machine operator.

Firefighting in the fire simulator system, including breathing apparatus and the correct use of fire extinguishers.

Paramedic training includes learning how to rescue others and yourself and how to provide correct technical assistance in the event of traffic accidents.

As part of this course, you will complete a number of training qualifications and special courses:

You will become a qualified user of breathing apparatus, participate in GABC incident drills, receive radio training for communication during incidents, and much more.

Training as an industrial firefighter pursuant to the German Vocational Training Act takes three years and is broken down into two sections.

The first section lasts 18 months and includes basic technical training in the following areas:

Electrical engineering, welding, woodworking, air conditioning, roofing, masonry, metalworking, and a Category C/CE driving license as well as driver safety training.

The second section comprises firefighting and paramedic training, which includes:

Participants either learn the basics of aircraft firefighting and how to apply them in practice or expand their existing skills in a refresher course.

Prerequisites:

You have completed basic firefighting training (FF/BF), are qualified in using breathing apparatus and have a valid G-26.3 certificate.

As well as practical training in:

Rescuing individuals from aircraft, conflagration firefighting, cabin ventilation, aircraft firefighting, engine fires, landing gear fires, cabin fires, cockpit fires, cargo hold fires.

Brief description:

Participants either learn the basics of aircraft recovery and how to apply them in practice or expand their existing skills in a modular refresher course.

Prerequisites:

Basic course: No prerequisites for participation
Refresher course: Proof of having completed the aircraft recovery basic training must be provided

Learning content Basic course:

Following the successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Apply the legal aspects of ICAO Annex 14 and Airport Services Manual Part 5 when coordinating and conducting aircraft recoveries
• Prepare an aircraft recovery plan
• Understand the responsibilities of an aircraft recovery coordinator and perform the associated tasks
• Assign basic tasks within a recovery team
• Describe and recognize hazards in connection with aircraft recovery operations and initiate measures to mitigate or eliminate hazardous situations
• Distinguish between and describe the three basic categories of aircraft recovery operation
• Direct and coordinate the deployment of recovery equipment
• Perform ground/surface stabilization
• Understand how to use aircraft lifting bags
• Stabilize a disabled aircraft using a lashing system
• Use tensile force gauges

Refresher modules:

• Module 1 Loss of nose landing gear
• Module 2 Loss of right or left main landing gear
• Module 3 Loss of nose landing gear and at least one main landing gear
• Module 4 Crane recovery

Brief description:

Direct communication between the cockpit crew and the Airport Fire Department via aircraft radio serves to facilitate and accelerate the decision-making processes of the cockpit crew and the Airport Fire Department in emergencies and extraordinary situations on the ground, as well as minimizing sources of error.

Prerequisites:

This course is designed for Airport Fire Department team leaders who are non-native speakers of English

Learning content Basic course:

Participants possess the necessary vocabulary to describe their working environment and to handle incidents. They will obtain knowledge in the following areas and be able to apply the necessary language skills:

• Airport Fire Department
• Aircraft technology
•   Phases of flight
• Aircraft terms
• Ground handling
• Phraseology
• Emergency situations and accidents

Refresher course learning content:

Participants will strengthen their understanding of English in connection with day-to-day emergency operations, deepen their knowledge of specialist aviation terminology, and expand their language skills with a view to communication and speaking freely.

The aim of the examination is to establish whether the participant is suited to the role of full-time company firefighter in terms of their personality and their general and professional skills and expertise.

Prerequisites:

• Completed basic training pursuant to the Training and Examination Directive (APRL-WerkFw.)
• Two years of training and operational experience with a company fire department
• Occupational medical opinion confirming no restrictions on physical or mental health affecting fitness for work as a firefighter
• G 26.3, G 25, G 37 and G 41 certification confirming fitness to wear breathing apparatus (firefighting aptitude tests)

1. The theoretical and practical training (M1) takes place at Fraport AG’s state-approved paramedic school. The content includes anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, law and organization, and practical training on an individual and team basis.

2. The hospital internship (M2) takes place for two weeks at a time at one of Fraport AG’s cooperation partners. Hospital training places are assigned by the paramedic school. Efforts are made to ensure that participants are placed as near to their home as possible.

3. The rescue service internship (M2) takes place for two weeks at a time at one of Fraport AG’s cooperation partners. Training places with rescue services are assigned by the paramedic school. Efforts are made to ensure that participants are placed as near to their home as possible.

4. The final training course (M4) takes place at the paramedic school once sections M1-M3 have been successfully completed. It comprises a total of 40 hours and is delivered one to two weeks before the final examination. During this time, participants prepare for their final examination in a targeted manner.

5. The final state examination comprises three parts:

        a. A supervised written test lasting 120 minutes

        b. A resuscitation test lasting 20-40 minutes

        c. A case study test with documentation and subsequent discussion lasting 20-40 minutes in total
